The Scouting Division
Director Agnes Krup and scouts Dave Adams, Chris Lupo, and Soumeya Bendimerad read and evaluate a wide range of fiction from important new literary voices to potential bestsellers as well as nonfiction of every type, from current affairs to memoirs to self-help. We also evaluate children’s and young adult literature. Literary agencies, all the major houses, university presses and independent publishers are covered in our search for books with strong translation potential.
Sanford Greenburger began recommending American literature to his friends and colleagues in European publishing from the agency’s inception in the 1930s, making us the first professional book scouts. Today, SJGA remains one of the major international scouting agencies in New York. Our clients include some of the most distinguished publishers: Hoffmann & Campe and dtv (Germany), Buchet-Chastel and Phébus (France), Mistral (Netherlands), Aschehoug (Norway), Record (Brazil), Norma (Latin America and Spain) and Literackie (Poland). Furthermore, we are the U. S. representatives for some of the major literary agencies in Asia. We have worked for decades with the Tuttle-Mori Agency in Japan, and also count among our clients the Eric Yang Agency in Korea, Tuttle-Mori in Thailand, and the Andrew Nurnberg China offices in Beijing and Taipei.
Scouts work solely on behalf of their international clients. We are not agents, and we cannot evaluate or respond to unsolicited material. |
