Jan Carr

Jan Carr has written over 50 books for children, including the well-received picture books Toe Shoe Mouse, Greedy Apostrophe: A Cautionary Tale, Big Truck and Little Truck, Dark Day Light Night, and The Nature of the Beast.

Her current projects include picture books Dude Dad and Parade!; a middle-grade novel titled Boots & Blue, A Story of friendship and Cheese; and Bruno Bear, Cub Reporter, a series for 7-9 year olds.

Armed with a B.S. in child development from Cornell University, and an M.Ed. in early childhood education, Jan first worked as a Head Start preschool teacher and instructor of education. She went on to work as a book editor at a children’s publishing house, a magazine editor at Sesame Workshop, and has taught writing at both The New School University and at School of Visual Arts in the MFA Illustration as Visual Essay program.

She currently writes fiction, works at Brooklyn Academy of Music, and reviews children’s books for Common Sense Media. Born in upstate New York, and raised in New York State and Cincinnati, Ohio, Jan now lives with her family in New York City.
